Amanda's 5-Step Story Framework
Step 1: Define Your Beat
Who are you publishing for? Why are you the person to tell this story? Start here before you write a single word.
Step 2: Work Your Story Pipeline
Assign a story lead (the person who brought the idea and ensures it gets told accurately) and channel leads (the people responsible for getting it out to each specific platform). Everyone knows their role before the story gets written.
Step 3: Report and Produce
Ask yourself: if a journalist saw this, would they see the craft in it, or would they call it marketing? That is your quality test.
Step 4: Publish and Distribute
Know where a story is going before you write it. Is this for Instagram? A media alert? Your year-end donor report? Plan the distribution at the beginning, not the end.
Step 5: Measure and Adjust
How do you know it is working? What do you do with that information? Build a regular cadence of checking and adjusting.
